Questions & answers
Everything you might be wondering
Straight answers about the training, who it suits, and what it does and does not cover. If something is missing, just ask.
The essentials
Is this training accredited?
No. In Time Diabetes First Aid is educational training designed to build practical confidence in real situations. It is not a nationally accredited first aid qualification and it does not replace a workplace first aid certificate, a diabetes management plan, or advice from someone's own health team.
Will this replace my workplace first aid certificate?
No. Keep your standard first aid certificate. This training sits alongside it, filling in the diabetes specific gaps that general first aid courses barely touch, like hypos, CGM alarms, insulin pumps, ketones and when to call 000.
Who is behind the training?
Rhiannan Pitts, a Credentialled Diabetes Educator and Registered Nurse with more than 15 years of clinical experience. Everything is written from real clinical practice and aligned with Australian guidance from the NDSS and Diabetes Australia.
Is the content Australian?
Yes. Every protocol, phone number and service referenced is Australian, including the Rule of 15, sick day guidance, Virtual ED and urgent care options, the NDSS Helpline and ADEA for finding a diabetes educator.
Who it's for
Do I need a medical background?
None at all. It is written for parents, partners, carers, support workers, teachers, colleagues and friends. No jargon, no assumed knowledge.
Can health professionals do it?
Yes, and many will find the language, stigma and communication module especially useful. It covers how to talk respectfully with people living with diabetes without slipping into judgement or blame.
What if I don't know anyone with diabetes yet?
You are still welcome. Around one in twenty Australians lives with diabetes, so most of us will stand beside someone in a difficult moment at some point. Knowing what to do before it happens is the whole point.
Does it cover both type 1 and type 2 diabetes?
Yes. The training is split into clear pathways so you can follow type 1, type 2, or both. Type 2 has its own content on medication related hypo risk, HHS, sick day rules and stigma.
How the training works
What is free and what is paid?
The free training modules are open to everyone, no payment required. The full course goes much deeper with filmed demonstrations, including glucagon, more scenarios, printable resources, a capstone assessment and a certificate of completion.
How long does it take?
You can go at your own pace, so you can work through it in whatever chunks suit you. Most people do one module at a time, often one a week.
Do I need an account?
Not for the free training, though creating one means your progress is saved and follows you across devices.
Do I get a certificate?
The full course includes a certificate of completion. It is a record of the training you have done, not an accredited qualification.
Workplaces, schools and groups
Can my workplace or school book this for a team?
Yes. Group enrolments cover multiple staff under one booking, with a progress view so a manager can see who has completed which module, plus an adaptable diabetes support policy template. Get in touch for a quote.
Do you run live sessions?
Yes. Online sessions are available for individuals and groups, including live Q&A where you can ask about your own situation. Everything is delivered online, Australia wide.
How do I get in touch?
Email info@intimediabetes.com and Rhiannan will get back to you.
Safety and medical advice
Is this medical advice?
No. The training is general education. It does not replace personalised advice from a doctor, diabetes educator or diabetes management plan, and it should never delay calling for help.
What should I do in an emergency?
Call 000 immediately if someone is unconscious, having a seizure, cannot swallow safely, or you are seriously worried. Never wait to work out the cause first.
Still have a question?
Email Rhiannan directly and you will get a real answer from a Credentialled Diabetes Educator, not a form reply.
